One More "Just Because" Quilt

Since the 10th birthday quilts have all been completed, I needed to get back to the little surprise ones for my children. This one landed on the doorstep of daughter Wendy in Colorado today so guess I am safe in posting a picture now. Hope it will brighten her home and make her think of Iowa when she uses it. Last, but not least, the youngest will have to wait a bit for his, as the quilting supplies are put up for a few weeks. I am sure I will get the urge to stitch again soon!

Last of the 10 Year Birthday Quilts

Now for the next give away but not until June 3rd. Colton is the last of 7 grandchildren to turn 10 and he is anxiously awaiting his Iowa State quilt. I think I am safe in putting a preview picture out here because Colton is only into Nintendo DS and not the internet yet! Hope he likes it.

Just A Rocking Chair Quilt

I just finished binding this small lap size quilt that will be perfect for the back of my antique rocking chair. Make one, keep it, make another one..give it away. Time to give again because my house is overflowing with quilts!

This one is for Kendall, whose birthday is March 25th. It is actually the very same pattern as the orange and pink quilt that I finished for Megan a few weeks ago. Kendall has always been a train lover so hope he will like to snuggle down under this one. Well back to the cutting board as I must complete quilt # 3 in another few weeks...............

Bricks and Stepping Stones

Just finished another easy scrap pattern called Bricks and Stepping Stones. It is a free download on this website. I absolutely love scrap quilts as they remind me so much of many old quilts I have seen. This one is very fast and would be a great one to teach the grandchildren! A terrific way to use up those small scraps.

Megan's 10 Year Quilt

Beginning in just a few short months, I have 3 grandchildren who will turn 10 years old within 6 weeks of each other and each will be receiving their 10 year quilt from NaNa. I am starting early so I can take my time and enjoy each and every process. Megan told me her favorite colors were pink and orange and I am amazed at how much fabric have these 2 colors combined. This is only the very beginning but it is starting to grow on me and I hope she will be happy with the finished quilt. (December 24, 2008) All finished now and in Colorado awaiting her birthday in a couple weeks. Can't wait to see a picture of it on her bed.

Spring Is In The Air

Have you ever just started a project for no reason at all except to work with bright and cheerful fabric? That is my mood today except I have no idea what I will do with this quilt. It might even end up on e-Bay! Just touching these fabrics makes me want to go out and plant flowers but guess I will have to wait a bit longer as I don't quite trust ole man winter.

Waiting in the Wings

It has been one of the most "quilting" winters that I can remember in Iowa. It just keeps going on and on.......snow, ice, COLD! I have kept very busy with my little projects and just finished these two quilts. Couldn't wait to post them until they are completed as who knows how long it will take me to finish stitching. The red one is called Raggedy Ann and the other is my Scrappy Squares. I know we all have tons of scraps and this is one of my favorite patterns to use a few of those.

My Sassy Sixteen

I just finished my Sassy Sixteen and am delighted with the outcome. Kimberly does such an excellent job of creating easy patterns. I just love her comments on the patterns and creating her quilts is just like putting together a large fabric puzzle. My First Attempt at Machine Quilting

Over the past 20 years, I have stitched so many quilts for myself and family members that I have long ago lost track. However, this is my first time at machine quilting. After some very kind words of encouragement from Kimberly, I finally got brave enough to do a very simple straight line stitch. I would love to learn some more challenging patterns if anyone cares to share. All I could think about was ruining my patchwork, but after a couple lines, I was a little more at ease. My next project will be to hand stitch one that I have already pieced together, and I will really need words of encouragement for this!

A few weeks ago, I found this wonderful pattern on a website while cruising the net, which is one of my favorite things to do. It is called The Jelly Maker's Cabin and was designed by Kimberly Camou of Divine Inspirations. I immediately went into my "stash" of patriotic fabrics and had it zipped up in no time. Off to the quilter's it went and as soon as it was back, I finished the binding and took it to my son as a gift. I joked and called it his "Caucus Quilt" because the day I was stitching it, he was catering out of his BBQ Restaurant in Des Moines to the CNN News crew at the caucus. I had noted on Kimberly's pattern that she would enjoy seeing all quilts made from her pattern so I sent a picture off to her. She immediately responded and when chatting back with her, I became interested in creating my own blog. What a wonderful way to share photos and thoughts with all your family and friends! Happy quilting everyone.
